Skin Cancer

Skin cancer is a growth of abnormal cells, which are usually caused by the sun's harmful rays. There are many different types of skin cancer that your dermatologist can diagnose and treat. The more common types are Melanoma, Basal Cell Carcinoma and Squamous cell carcinoma. Early detection is crucial. If caught early, skin cancer is highly treatable which is why we recommend yearly exams.

To prevent skin cancers from forming, you must be very cautious in the sun.  You must:

  • Seek Shade when appropriate
  • Wear sun protective clothing
  • Apply a water resistant sunscreen with SPF of 30 or higher, however 100 SPF is highly recommended.
