| Before Your Chemical Peel |
- Stop all
topical medications that may dry or irritate your skin including
Retin-A, Renova, Azelex, Lustra, benzoyl peroxide, alpha-hydroxy
acids (AHA), and beta-hydroxy acids (BHA) 48 hours before your
chemical peel. Call our office if you are unsure about the products
you are using.
- Avoid sun
exposure and do not use tanning beds for one week before your
chemical peel. Both can make your skin too sensitive for the procedure.
DO use your sunscreen. Do not use self-tanners for at least 48
hours before your chemical peel.
- For one
week before your chemical peel, do not have any other cosmetic
procedures including facials that use waxing. Avoid depilatories,
waxing, electrolysis, and laser hair removal. Do not exfoliate
or use a loofah. Do not shave your face within a few hours before
your chemical peel.
- Use only
mild cleansers and moisturizers. Cetaphil products are recommended.
- Do not apply
make up on the day of your chemical peel.
- Do not wear
contact lenses during your chemical peel.

| After
Your Chemical Peel |
- When washing
your face, do not scrub. Use only gentle, soapless cleansers like
Cetaphil.
- If you see
some flaking, resist any urge to peel, pick, or scratch the treated
skin. These actions may result in scarring or delayed healing.
- Use a physical
sun block with UVA and UVB coverage to prevent any hyperpigmentation
(dark spots). Your skin will be more sensitive to the sun than
usual after your chemical peel.
- Do not have
any other facial treatments for at least one week after your chemical
peel.
- You can
restart your at home products and topical medications approximately
5 to 7 days after your chemical peel, AFTER the peeling is complete.
Do not wax facial hair for at least 48 hours after your chemical
peel. You may apply make up at any time.
- If you develop
a fever blister after your chemical peel, start your fever blister
medication right away.
- Contact
our office if severe swelling, crusting, pain, or fever blisters
develop.
