Microdermabrasion
is a technique that uses sand-like particles, specifically aluminum
oxide crystals, to exfoliate the skin. A simultaneous mechanical vacuum
system pulls away the particles, along with the dead skin layer. This
enables us to localize the technique to your skin to:
- Improve splotchy
pigmentation of face neck, chest, hands, and arms
- Improve resistant
blackheads and whiteheads of acne
- Flatten certain types
of scars and keloids
- Minimize fine lines
or wrinkles, and increase effectiveness of prescription topical
agents
- Maintain effectiveness
after aggressive facial resurfacing with lasers or acid peels
- Improve thickened
areas of skin on elbows or heels
This technique may be especially
helpful for sensitive skin and darker skin types that may be resistant
to other treatments; and as an adjuvant therapy to accelerate or maintain
other skin treatments such as Retin-A therapy.
The procedure does not produce any down time from work, and takes
about 30 minutes for facial or non-facial areas. A series of 5 weekly
treatments is necessary to see results. After this time a maintenance
treatment may or may not be required on a monthly or bimonthly basis.
Prior to beginning treatments it will be necessary for you to have
a consultative visit with the physician to see if you are a good candidate
for this procedure. |
