Care Instructions for Acne |
- It is very
important that you use only the products that we give you.
- Keep your
hands off your face! Touching your face or picking at your bumps
will cause your acne to spread.
- Do not put
anything oily on your face. This includes oil-based makeup. Cosmetics
should be water-based. Some examples of good water-based foundations
are: Clinique, i-Natural, and Almay. Noxema, cocoa butter, and
other oily moisturizers should be avoided. If a moisturizer is
needed, Purpose is recommended and is available without a prescription.
- Use a mild
cleanser, such as Cetaphil or Neutrogena to gently wash your face
twice a day. Do not use any other cleansers. Do not scrub your
face.
- After washing,
apply Aqua Glycolic Toner to your face with a cotton ball in a
gentle, circular motion. Allow this to dry before applying any
topical medications.
- Apply any
topical medications in a very thin layer to your face. If you
can see it after you have spread it on, you have used too much.
- Oral medications
may be given. If so, take these as directed. Some antibiotics
given for acne may increase sensitivity to the sun and cause sunburn.
You may want to limit your sun exposure and wear sun block. Some
sun blocks that may be used are: Coppertone Sport, Neutrogena,
and Sol Bar (gel only). These will not increase your acne bumps.
- For everyday
broad spectrum protection from the sun, you may use Cetaphil Daily
Facial Moisturizer with SPF 15. It will hydrate your skin as well
as protect it. Cetaphil Daily Moisturizer is oil-free, non-comedogenic
and fragrance free so it will not increase your acne bumps.
- BE PATIENT.
It often takes 6 to 8 weeks to see any improvement in acne.
